SHOT CLOCK OPERATION
The following instructions pertain to the working of the shot clock itself. For information on Shot Clock rules, see the links at the bottom of this page.
Bell
- This shot clock is run by an old scoreboard controller and is similar to that at Merivale but with slightly different remotes.
- See the instructions for Merivale below and note that the remotes are slightly different and better labelled.
- November 2009: The controller used is set up to "think" that it is running the scoreboard as well. As such, the shot clock will only run if a non-zero amount of time is entered. Suggest "Set Time 9 9 0 0 Yes 1" to ensure that it will last an entire game. Also, the "reset" switch is not momentary so the operator will need to flip it off and on to reset.
Merivale
- This shot clock is run by an old Nevco scoreboard controller (same model used at most Nepean arenas until upgrades began about 2 years ago) that is used only to drive the shot clock.
- The shot clock operator must use a wired remote in the timekeepers booth and must start and stop the shot clock as it is not slaved to the scoreboard, which uses a separate controller.
- If the shot clock will not reset to 30s, try re-initializing it.
- Turn it off, and then on (switch is low on the right hand side of the controller).
- When it asks whether you want to continue from the last game, enter NO.
- After a long welcome message, it will ask for the display model. Enter the model number on the faceplate (2700100)
- It will then ask for the count down value. Enter "30"
- Use the remote with 2 switches labelled O.B/S.T. and HOLD. The one labeled HOLD is actually "reset". The O.B./S.T switch is run/stop - use only the left and centre positions. This switch has three positions which are:
- Left: Clock runs
- Centre: Clock holds at whatever time is displayed
- Right: Clock resets to 30 seconds and holds
SPLX1, SPLX2, WBB:
- Red Button: Start/Stop. Pressing once will start the clock if stopped, and stop the clock if running.
- Orange Button: Reset. Pressing this button will reset the clock to 30 seconds. If the clock is stopped when reset, it will remain stopped displaying 30. If running when reset, it will reset to 30 seconds and keep running.
- Green Button: This is used to program the unit and should not be touched.
- Blue Button: Press and hold this button for 2 seconds to blank the displays. This should be done at the end of each period when there is less time remaining in the period than on the shot clock, and after each game as these units do not shut themselves down after a period of inactivity.
- OES Shot Clock Instructions: Manufacturer's instructions for these clocks.
Portables:
- Red Button: Start/Stop. Pressing once will start the clock if stopped, and stop the clock if running.
- Grey Button: Reset. Pressing this button will reset the clock to 30 seconds AND start it running. To reset to 30 seconds and hold, press the Grey button, followed by the Red.
- Pressing a button twice rapidly can confuse these units. If this occurs, wait a second or two and reset.
- When changing the battery in the remote, be careful not to accidentally change the slide-switches used to set the remote code.
